Feathers Winners January 2024

Feathers Winners January 2024
Our People

Join us in congratulating our first Feathers winners for 2024!

27th February 2024

Bringing in the start of 2024 is a lady who wears many hats, going above and beyond her normal duties. She is the kind of person you can rely on in the toughest times. That is why our Social Engagement Assistant Cecilia Bray is our Feathers winner for January. Congratulations Cecilia!

“One of our residents had taken a turn for the worst and the family were asking for last rites. When the usual Catholic priest was not able to be reached, Cecilia organised for her new priest to come in to perform last rites. Cecilia was not working and spent her own time helping find someone who was able to come in. This is not the first time Cecilia has gone above and beyond to help ensure a resident's spiritual needs are met.”

Cecilia is just one of the many incredible team members whom we need to acknowledge and celebrate.

Here are some other incredible stories from behind the scenes of SwanCare.

CUSTOMER SERVICE

Scott Arkwright, Maintenance Officer - Maintenance

“Scott went out of his way in a situation when I called him for assistance. A frail, independent resident was unable to use her key to gain entry to her home. The carer believed the key had been left in the door inside, therefore the key would not fit in the lock. Scott went out of his way to attend to the job ASAP. I knew he was busy as I had sighted him on my way.  He stated he would go straight away; he then came to Akora, where I had taken the resident, to sit in the cool to explain what had happened with her lock -demonstrating kindness and compassion. I had only expected a call to tell me the entry was available.”

We’re so grateful for the service you provide, Scott. You go above and beyond in your work, and your professionalism is undeniable. Thank you!

LEADERSHIP

Deki Tshomo, Assistant in Nursing - SwanCare Tandara

“I would like to recognise Deki for the hard work she does. I have just started working regularly on the floor with her and I enjoy it when she is on because of the way she leads the team – it means things are smoother. She knows all the little things about the residents. She had to tell me about changes to fluid thickness as it had been a while since I worked on the floor, so I was not aware of the change. She will be in the middle of the kitchenette at meals times, getting the dining room ready, and guiding the team that's with her as to the things that need doing, and the resident that is next to be assisted with their meal - she never seems to stop moving and always has a smile on her face when things are tough. Thank you for all your hard work Deki.”

Well deserved Deki, your leadership qualities are commendable, and you are invaluable to the team.

LEARNING & DEVELOPMENT

Marcus Allen, Community Assistant - Home Care

“Marcus is a new member of our team. He is a young gentleman who has a passion for aged care and only in the last year completed his Certificate. Being new to the field and new to the team there is a lot to learn, and I want to commend Marcus on the improvement he has shown and his dedication to learning. He always takes suggestions for improvement on board and implements them in his daily work. This was noted in the way he (for instance) completes a Medication Incident. The detail he supplies when describing the incident and the actions taken are outstanding. For the person having to investigate the incident this is a great help to understand what happened. Marcus can demonstrate the approach he took to the incident, which covers assuring that the client is well, and has a very clear understanding of the actual incident. Marcus I am very proud of you, witnessing how you take learning and improvements on board and implementing them. Well done. You deserve to be commended on it.”

What wonderful feedback. Great job Marcus, we are thrilled to have you as part of the SwanCare family.

TEAMWORK

Tahlia Ince, People & Culture Officer – Administration

“Tahlia is an integral and valuable member of the People and Culture team. She continually provides support to her team members and always does it with a smile - she is never too busy to assist - always dropping what she is doing to lend a hand. We recently had two new starters in our team - Emily and Kathy. Tahlia has been the 'go-to' person for both Emily and Kathy for both IT questions and general P&C and SwanCare processes. Regardless of her workload, she has made Emily and Kathy's questions her priority - either answering them herself or directing them to the appropriate person. This has made the transition to SwanCare a smooth and professional experience. Love your work Tahlia.”

Excellent work Tahlia, what a great person to have on the team. We are lucky to have you!

TEAM NOMINATION

Rajni Sharma, Assistant in Nursing - SwanCare Waminda

Sonam Choki, Assistant in Nursing - SwanCare Waminda

Babita B. K. Rasaily, Assistant in Nursing - SwanCare Waminda

“This is to recognise these three ladies for their resilience, teamwork, and hard work - worthy of emulation by their peers. We were short of staff with the floor having a COVID case. They didn't complain, did their tasks efficiently and handled the stress of being short-staffed with calm and respect for one another. Residents' care was attended to in a timely manner without sacrificing the quality of care provided. They were able to shower a resident with a challenging behaviour without any issues. They have shown so much patience and care to the residents despite the pressure on the floor. Sonam Babita and Rajni, thank you very much!”

Ladies, thank you so much for your incredible work. It does not go unnoticed, and we really appreciate everything you do.
