Our August winner was nominated for demonstrating compassion, an admirable attribute which we value highly within our SwanCare family.
25th September 2024
Who would have thought so much could happen in just one month? At SwanCare, it certainly does! Our dedicated team works tirelessly to bring the very best to our residents. We love taking a moment to acknowledge and celebrate the incredible people behind the scenes, sharing their inspiring stories and efforts that make it all possible.
Our August winner was nominated for demonstrating compassion, an admirable attribute which we value highly within our SwanCare family.
Here’s the story about our fantastic Laundry Assistant from our Hospitality Services, Christine Harshaw:
“Christine had just finished delivering the village laundry and on her way back she saw a resident. The resident was not sure where she was or where she was from, so Christine went over and above her duties to make sure she was safe. She helped the resident over to SwanCare Kingia where she sat her down and made sure that she was comfortable, while reception helped organise for the buggy to return her to her home at SwanCare Waminda. Christine stayed with the resident until she knew that she was safe and sound. Thank you for your compassion and for ensuring the safety of a resident in need. Well done.”
Thank you, Christine! Your compassion and dedication truly stand out, and we are thrilled to recognise you as the overall monthly winner as part of our Feathers Rewards Program!
We take great pride in reflecting SwanCare's core values through everything we do. Please continue reading as we announce the outstanding category winners from August, recognised for their exceptional demonstration of our values.

CUSTOMER SERVICE
Dhurba Rijal, Commercial Chef & Aayushi Poudel, Food Service Assistant - Hospitality Services
“A Bentley Park Social Club event was held, whereby their theme was Western style, and the commercial team were asked to provide catering for the function. I would like to commend both Chef Dhurba and Chef Aayushi for delivering yet again another wonderful service to our village residents, they were all very happy. It was a challenge as they had minimal resources due to one of the team members being absent with sickness, but Chef Dhurba was able to manage the team of two. He ended up cooking for the function and serving as well. Kudos to his leadership and high level of customer service on this event.
Here's an appreciation message sent by the organiser Meryl B.: “Good morning, Lester. Your staff did a great job on Saturday night. The hamburgers were appreciated, and everyone seemed satisfied. Thank you.”
Great work Dhurba and Aayushi, your culinary and customer service skills are certainly appreciated!
IMPROVEMENTS, INNOVATION & CREATIVITY
Rembrant Sy, Senior Application Support Officer & Annie Kanaparthi, Integrations Developer - Administration
“Thank you to both Annie and Rem for their hard work behind the scenes in implementing care minutes on a dashboard. The dashboard has provided the clinical team with an understanding on a day-to-day basis as to how the care minutes are, versus the required minutes, and forward projection as well, to plan staffing. Thank you and well done.”
Nicely done Rem and Annie, streamlining processes for a more efficient operation benefits the whole team. Thank you both.
LEARNING & DEVELOPMENT
Farhath Jameel, Clinical Nurse Educator
“Farhath has always been extremely proficient at sharing her knowledge and educating others - this time round is no exception. Farhath supported our team in the changing of a rather complex suprapubic catheter change and was very patient and thorough in educating us. Even after the procedure was completed, Farhath continued to check on our team and provide support even though she didn't need to. Thanks to her, our team is more confident with this complex procedure. Thank you Farhath!”
This is truly inspiring to hear, Farhath. Continuous learning and development are vital to our growth as an organisation, and your contributions play a significant role in that journey. Thank you for your dedication— keep up the great work!
SAFETY AWARENESS
Zoran Pusaric, Maintenance Officer
“Big thanks to Zoran for all his help today. SwanCare Ningana had water entering the building unexpectedly, and as a result, the front entrance mat and carpets in the small meeting room were saturated. The front entrance area was a hazard, and the risk had to be minimised as quickly as possible. Zoran assisted with getting towels and helping mop up the water. Then assisted to wet vacuum up the water and set up fans to dry out the carpet. Thanks for jumping in so quickly.”
Speedy work! Thanks, Zoran for helping SwanCare Ningana remain a safe place for all. It must have been a relief for the residents and other staff to see it return to normal!
TEAMWORK
Jackie Hillson, Physiotherapy Assistant – SwanCare Kingia/SwanCareTandara
“Jackie has worked for a long time at SwanCare and contributed positively to many co-workers around her. She has always looked out for the wellbeing of fellow staff. In particular, she has gone above and beyond during a recent event when her colleague Mavis was having a retirement party. Of her own accord and with the help of others in SwanCare Kingia and Tandara, including the Nursing and Social Engagement team, Jackie played a big role in the decoration of the party venue, the Jacques Centre. Jackie went through the trouble of procuring a decorative tiara, sash, cake and a few other items to commemorate her colleague's special occasion.
Over the past month Jackie also took it upon herself to go to personnel who may have worked with Mavis before, to write their best wishes in a card which was also given to Mavis on her last day. All these little gestures from Jackie, as well as the collective efforts of the Nursing and Social Engagement team, brought a few tears to Mavis' eyes. I'm certain that all staff who attended the party had a memorable time. I would like to thank Jackie for all her hard work to contribute to this event's success, on top of her usual daily tasks. Her efforts make Swancare a great workplace to be in.”
Incredible feedback Jackie, you must be proud! Your efforts have put a lot of smiles on people’s faces, so well done!
