Our final Feathers winners for 2024 have been announced!
29th November 2024
With holiday season just around the corner, it is time for our last Feathers announcement of 2024! We have loved celebrating all the amazing work of our SwanCare family over the year and never fail to be impressed by how the team live and breathe the SwanCare values day in, day out.
So, without further ado, we are pleased to reveal our Feathers winner for November. Congratulations Sam Gandhi, our Assistant in Nursing at SwanCare Kingia. Here is his nomination received from a resident’s family member:
“On behalf of my Mum, Sister and I, I'd like to recognise the outstanding compassion and service Sam has for his residents and visitors. Sam remembers little details and is always on the lookout for ways in which he can make experiences better. Over the last year since Dad has been in care, Mum visits each afternoon, and we have noticed small ways in which Sam has assisted or made her time here more enjoyable. He has been known to bring an extra scoop of ice cream to share with Dad on a particularly hot day, always offers mum a drink and will run off to get her a chair when she arrives if one isn't available.
Recently he came back into the Activity Room with a table for her to place Dad's afternoon tea on when her hands were full of his food and drink. These small acts are done without asking, mostly before Mum even realises what she needs for herself. Sam seems to prioritise getting to know others, which is demonstrated through his smile and the compassionate small acts of service. Throughout this difficult transition for our family, Sam really stands out as an amazing human. Thank you, Sam, the world needs more angels, like you!”
Incredible feedback Sam! It’s so lovely to hear about how our talented people are helping make a difference to the lives of others. Thank you!
We have some other inspiring people to acknowledge, here are the nominations for our category winners for November.

CUSTOMER SERVICE
Thinley Dorji, Assistant in Nursing – SwanCare Ningana
“I'd like to acknowledge the outstanding initiative shown by my colleague. During our shift we began shaving one of the residents but noted it would take a lot of time early in the morning. Later when he had some free time, my colleague went above and beyond by taking the extra initiative to ensure the resident's long beard was fully shaved. His dedication and commitment to providing quality care without prompting is truly commendable. This thoughtful action made a noticeable difference even to the residents’ family and I believe he deserves recognition for his effort.”
Great work Thinley, your proactive approach and dedication to the resident’s care are truly commendable.
IMPROVEMENTS, INNOVATION & CREATIVITY
Arnel Braulio, Clinical Nurse Manager – SwanCare Ningana
“Arnel has worked tirelessly above and beyond to support the Dementia Memory Support Unit in Ningana. Arnel has introduced innovative ideas to improve the ambience and mood of the area and has provided one-on-one education to staff on all shifts to assist them to understand the changing needs of the consumers who reside in the memory unit.
Arnel has listened carefully to staff and consumers and implemented extra support to ensure the best possible outcomes for the consumers. Arnel has also reached out to external health providers, and we have been able to improve the wellbeing and lifestyle of the consumers through consultation with the Co Hive Geriatrician and Psychiatrist and the BOAMHS mental Health team. Arnel is always available when he is needed and takes time to sit and listen. He is an asset to our team. Thank you Arnel!”
Wow you’ve been busy Arnel! Thank you so much for all your hard work, we appreciate it!
LEADERSHIP
Sean Le, Creative and Design Lead – Administration
“I'd like to recognise the additional support and leadership Sean demonstrates, in particular when I needed to unexpectedly travel overseas recently for personal reasons. Without an ounce of hesitation, Sean encouraged me to go, despite very little notice and a heavy workload period for our department.
Sean is always supportive, going over and above and working outside of hours, or doing what it takes to get jobs done to a very high quality. This was however even more evident when I was away for the three weeks, with Sean taking on the leadership role seamlessly, communicating with other departments and suppliers to ensure I returned to all deadlines being met and I could pick up without added stress. Sean you're always an asset and are much more than my right hand.”
Sean, we are lucky to have you on the team, thank you for being you!
TEAMWORK
Charmaine Abrantes, Assistant in Nursing – Ningana
“Charmaine has shown remarkable skills in engaging residents on the floor and helped manage residents stay calm with her diversion techniques. She was observed offering help to care staffs on other side of the floor multiple times. She has mostly gone above and beyond to help her teammates. Thank you for being one of the strongest pillars of the floor and upholding the swan care values.”
Charmaine, your ability to engage residents and manage their needs with such skill and calmness is truly impressive. Thank you for all your hard work.
