Feathers Winners May 2023
Our People

We celebrate our Feathers winner and all other category winners for the month of May!

At SwanCare, we recognise that career development opportunities are invaluable. More so, we feel extremely proud to have a team of talented individuals who rise to the occasion and embrace new opportunities, all while demonstrating excellent leadership skills to fellow staff.

This month we congratulate our May Feathers Winner, Farhath Jameel, who recently covered the Care Services Manager role at SwanCare Waminda and while doing so showed great strength of knowledge and character.

“Farhath came to Waminda to cover the time I was away on sick leave recently. She was out of her comfort zone but took on the challenge with great spirit. She took opportunities to teach our staff and she developed a strong camaraderie with our senior nurses which has been and will continue to be invaluable. Farhath was a great support to our relatively new Clinical Nurse Manager (CNM) and took a chance to dive into her role of CNM and reassure herself that she was doing all the right things. Thank you Farhath for your leadership and your gentle ways. You have a strong fan base at Waminda!”

Congratulations, Farhath, it is wonderful to see our very own talented staff being provided opportunities for growth and advancement.

A very big congratulations to all category winners for the month of May. We are so grateful to have you all part of our SwanCare family.

Category Winners

Compassion: Manfred Scharlach (Maintenance Officer)

“Manfred was asked if it was possible to fix a resident's strap from his watch. Manfred realised that the strap was in a very bad shape, so he decided to go in his own time and buy a new one for him. Our resident was so grateful having his old watch be made brand new. It made his day! Thank you, Manfred!”

Customer Service: Sachreet Kaur (Registered Nurse - SwanCare Ningana)

“Thanks, Sachreet, for jumping in and assisting with our Influenza/COVID vaccination clinic recently. Sachreet jumped in and assisted the pharmacist, Jo, in conducting the clinic without being asked and made the process less stressful for Jo and smoother for all those attending.”

Improvements, Innovation & Creativity: Mat Allam (Information & Communications Technology Manager)

“Since starting at SwanCare, Mat has always been trying to make the systems and processes easier for everyone while making them more secure at the same time. We have seen a massive improvement behind the scenes in our systems since Mat took over. The recent feather on Mat's cap is SSO - Single Sign-on. Mat is working with all our software providers and trying to enable one password. Most of us struggle with remembering various passwords for our different software. Mat has already converted ELMO and our new DoneSafe portals to SSO, so we no longer need passwords to access the systems. This makes things more secure and accessible. Mat is working on other systems as well at the same time. When I thanked Mat for this, Mat humbly said ‘I am just happy to make a difference here at SwanCare.’ Keep up the good work, Mat.”

Learning & Development: Bindhya Baby Theres (Clinical Nurse Manager – SwanCare Waminda)

“Bindhya has come ahead in leaps and bounds since she started here early this year. Her ability was very obvious to me when the assessors arrived from ACQSC for our unannounced accreditation audit and Bindhya rose to the occasion with confidence and eloquence that she probably wasn't feeling. You most definitely are the right person for your Clinical Nurse Manager role, and I look forward to continuing working with you. You deserve some feathers!”

Teamwork: Alicia (Yee Cheng) Peng (Food Service Dietician)

“Alicia thank you for your detailed and hard work in preparation for and during SwanCare Waminda's accreditation. You worked closely and consistently with the multidisciplinary team together towards a common goal. You shared ideas and assisted other team members to improve their work and helped others to form a good team. Your focus on person centred care and meeting resident's individual preferences is outstanding. Your creative approach to present our menu in the best possible version to consumers and their representatives was acknowledged by the auditors. Continuous improvement activities to better our food service led by you, demonstrated commitment to meet residents' nutritional needs preferences and expectations. Fantastic work, Alicia!”

Team Nomination: Leena Vettiyadan (Physiotherapy Assistant – SwanCare Ningana), Lyndall Ford (Social Engagement Assistant – SwanCare Ningana), Belinda Mele (Activities Officer – SwanCare Ningana), Safirah Ismail (Social Engagement Officer – SwanCare Ningana), Claudia Acosta (Physiotherapy Assistant – SwanCare Ningana), Agrima Sharma (Physiotherapy Assistant – SwanCare Ningana) & Lorena Bravo (Social Engagement Assistant – SwanCare Ningana).

“I would like to acknowledge the Allied Health team for the amazing job done yesterday at SwanCare Ningana's birthday party. Each of them displayed excellent teamwork and great communication skills which made everything run smoothly. Our residents and staff had a wonderful time and were very thankful with the effort put into making yesterday's party a memorable time for all. I'm in awe of their skills and commitment into providing the best of care for our residents. They are awesome and I feel very proud to be working alongside them.”
