SwanCare’s Feathers Spotlight: January 2020

Feathers Logo

Karen Munro, one of our fantastic Assistants in Nursing (AIN) at SwanCare Waminda, has taken out the top Feathers Prize in January for her caring and compassionate nature.

As a family member of a resident reflected, “Karen was there when my uncle had his fall. She showed true concern for him - checking on him when she got home and even coming in with her daughter to see him on her day off. Thank you, Karen, for being such a kind, compassionate and caring individual.”

  Feathers Winner January 2020

SwanCare’s Feathers nominations are like washed-up shells; there are millions more where they came from in the depths of the ocean, but we feel lucky to pause and savor a special few. Feathers is a way for us to recognise the boundless compassion, robust integrity and generosity of spirit that characterises our people and the way they work every single day.

Category Winners

Suzy Suswati

Customer Service: Suzy Suswati, Activities Officer, SwanCare Tandara

Suzy has been nominated for her incredible service to our residents, and to one resident in particular. As her colleague wrote, “I attended a funeral of one of our residents recently, and the family thanked all the staff in Tandara for the care they provided their Dad. In particular, they mentioned Suzy who would always go and check the resident prior to her shift. The resident was very fond of Suzy. The family’s appreciation for Suzy is something we need to acknowledge as a team.”

Eric Almen

Leadership: Eric Almen, Registered Nurse, SwanCare Kingia

In January, Eric is being recognised for taking initiative to directly benefit a resident. Our resident recently returned from hospital and moved into palliative care. Eric took it upon himself to feed this resident when our AINs were temporarily occupied with more pressing tasks. “Eric didn't have to do this, but he was thinking about the resident and the team. Thank you, Eric, for always putting the residents first and thinking of your staff. Great teamwork and leadership.”

Amal Zainuden

Learning and Development: Amal Zainuden, Registered Nurse, SwanCare Tandara

Amal has been absolutely dedicated to learning new things so she can expand her knowledge of resident care; attending all meetings and involving herself in all areas of care. Amal has been coming in on her days off to update resident care plans to align them with our new standards. Amal is a role model to everyone with her dedication and proactive approach.” Incredible work Amal, thank you.

Cecilia Bray

Safety Awareness: Cecilia Bray, Activities Officer, SwanCare Waminda

This month, we celebrate Cecilia for always going the extra mile. Cecilia’s teammate spotted her battling with a very large carton, plastic wrapping and a wooden crate that had been the packaging for a new recliner chair for one of our residents. “Cecilia was ensuing the packaging was not left outside the automatic doors near reception, obstructing other seating that residents enjoy using. Maintenance said they would remove it tomorrow, but Cecilia wanted to leave the area safe and accessible. This was after her shift at reception had finished. This is so typical of Cecilia; she never leaves anything incomplete. Thank you, Cecilia.”

Jovy Tesani

Recognising Others: Jovy Tesani, Manager Care Services, SwanCare Kingia/Tandara

A star among stars, Jovy Tesani is consistently recognising her team; and in return, they recognise and celebrate her. “Jovy always recognises her staff - even for the little things they do. She appreciates the efforts of others - especially when it pertains to our residents’ care. Jovy also encourages her team to recognise the good in others. It’s always good to be acknowledged by your manager – even if it’s just with a thank you.”

Camilo Dangazo

Teamwork: Camilo Dangazo, Activities Officer, SwanCare Kingia/Tandara

Camilo is being recognised in January for his incredible ability to help others in need. “Today, I was doing the KI group exercise and I got an emergency request. I had to leave my group and hand over to Camilo. When I finished the assessment, Camilo had completed the session. This is the definition of teamwork; when you have difficulties, and someone is there to support you. Thank you so much, Camilo.”

Ronnie Deans

Josephine Armstrong

Team nomination, Admin Reception: Ronnie Deans and Josephine Armstrong

This month, the IT team has extended a heartfelt thank you to the team in Administration for their dedication and hard work. "Something has changed - there's an outage, a device is down, my phone isn’t working, I can’t find my hairdryer, there’s water coming from the ceiling… my car is on fire!!!" As the person nominating the Administration team wrote, “These are just a handful of things they will hear in a matter of minutes during their day. I would like to thank the reception team for everything they do for myself and the IT Department. When the chips are down, the Administration team pushes through. I admire their resilience to just get on with the day and nothing appears to get the better of them. We’ve just been through a major change with security and reception has had to deal with an influx of enquiries. They have really achieved results working with IT and our residents. It’s truly appreciated.”
