SwanCare’s Feathers Wrap Up: December 2019

Feathers Logo

Congratulations to our December Feathers Winner, Repeka Kirianu, EN, for her outstanding compassion.

This month, Repeka has taken out the top Feathers Award for her kind heart.

As her manager wrote, “One of our residents used to go dancing and out to dinner with her friends. As she’s unable to attend as frequently these days, Bex took the resident out for lunch at the Crown on her day off. This isn't the first time Bex has done something like this for our residents. She has so much love that she does these things out of her own heart without expecting recognition or anything in return.” Thank you for such a beautiful act of kindness, Bex.

  Feathers Winner December 2019

SwanCare’s Feathers nominations offer a window into life at SwanCare. They represent thousands of little moments that happen each and every day at SwanCare that bring our world here to life. A small gesture can change someone’s day. In this newsletter, we take a moment to recognise and thank just some of the incredible people who went above and beyond in December.

Category Winners

Hannah Abdul Jalil

Customer Service: Hannah Abdul Jalil, Food Service Attendant, Kingia

“Throughout December, Hannah stayed back to help a resident wrap her Christmas presents. This resident struggles with simple tasks involving her hands and Hannah helped without hesitation.” Thank you, Hannah, for being conscious of resident’s individual needs and helping accordingly; outstanding work.

Chai Laoaramwattana

Improvements, Innovation & Creativity: Chai Laoaramwattana, Housekeeping Attendant, Tandara

This month we extend a warm thank you to Chai for taking initiative outside of his role. As his colleague wrote, “Chai works as a cleaner, but he always helps other staff such as with breakfast trays or liaising with RNs about our residents’ needs. He’s always helping others. I’m glad to have him as my colleague. Not only does he do his job to the best of his ability, but he helps others outside his role. Thank you, Chai!”

Bianca Beard

Leadership: Bianca Beard, Food Service Attendant, Waminda

In December, we recognise Bianca for her exceptional leadership and relationship skills. As the staff member nominating Bianca reflected, “Lauren covered a shift at Waminda last weekend as we were short staffed. She informed me that Bianca, the team leader, was extremely helpful. Bianca knew exactly what job Lauren and the rest of the team should be doing at any point, and she was happy to fill in where required. There was a very happy atmosphere throughout the day for all staff. Thankyou Bianca for leading the team in such a positive environment.”

Zo Than Pui

Learning and Development: Zo Than Pui, AIN Waminda

In December, we celebrate our new team member Zo for her outstanding attitude and commitment. “Zo is very new to our team and she is an absolute delight. She’s hard-working, has a wonderful attitude and is determined to do her best. She’s also quick to accept extra shifts to become even more comfortable in her role and excel. Thank you, Zo!”

Corrina Alderson

Safety awareness: Corrina Alderson, Registered Nurse, Waminda

This month, we applaud Corrina for her quick-thinking, courage and people skills to calm a situation that could have been much more distressing. “Recently, one of our residents went wondering and took a bus to Innaloo. This was a dangerous situation for our resident; however, she was wearing a GPS tracking device which provided intermittent information regarding the resident's location and speed. Without hesitation, Corrina jumped in her car to intercept the bus. However, it was taking too long to get through traffic, so the police were called. The resident was found at a member of the public's home in a terrible mess. Corrina cleaned everything up and smoothed things over with the homeowners before returning with the resident to SwanCare. I think this was a fantastic result from what could have been a much more drawn-out process for both the family and for our resident. Thank you, Corrina. I can rely on you to go the extra distance.”

Stephanie Burgess

Teamwork, Stephanie Burgess, Community Assistant

“Stephanie is one of our long-standing staff members. Her attitude towards work and clients her passion for what she does is remarkable. Her positivity and integrity are not only noted by fellow colleagues and clients but also by the wider community. On Fridays, when Stephanie takes her client out to the shopping centre, the pair are approached by members of the community. Often, Stephanie is asked about our SwanCare At Home service. Stephanie’s openness and ability to connect with others has led an elderly member of the community to change their service to SwanCare At Home. Well done Stephanie. What a great team effort.”

Teresa Strelley

Velvet Barrett

Suzy Suswati

Team nomination: Lifestyle - Teresa Strelley, Velvet Barrett and Suzy Suswati

In December, we recognise Teresa, Suzy and Velvet for volunteering their time to take residents out to explore Christmas lights in the evening. “Our residents were delighted to see this once in a year spectacle; it was such an adventure.
