Harmony Week 2024
Residential Aged CareOur People

See how our residential aged care centres have been celebrating Harmony Week.

25th March 2024

These past seven days, our residential aged care centres have been celebrating Harmony Week.

Harmony Day originated in WA in 1999. Now it is a week-long event, recognised nation-wide as an occasion dedicated to embracing and celebrating Australia's cultural diversity; promoting inclusivity, belonging and acceptance for all.

Throughout the week people are encouraged to wear the colour orange in support, or they can choose to wear the national dress of their heritage - something our care staff look forward to doing every year.

Pictured below was the luncheon held at SwanCare Tandara where in addition to dressing the part, staff also brought along food and drinks from their culture for residents to enjoy.

One example is our Quality and Compliance Coordinator, Rikke, who celebrated her Norwegian heritage wearing a Bunad Dress and bringing in a plate of traditional Norwegian cookies... yum!

“It was great celebrating Harmony Week,” she said, “Many staff, myself included, are far away from their family and culture. Harmony Week is a fantastic opportunity to share my culture from Norway with these special cookies and also to taste all the delicious food from many other cultures. It was very special.”
