A wee celebration for St Andrew’s Day
Dust off ye kilt and tam o’shanter, it’s St Andrew’s Day!
To celebrate Scotland’s official national day, SwanCare Kingia & Tandara welcomed a piper and drummer from the Western Australian Police Pipe Band to entertain residents on Friday, November 29. St Andrew’s Day is officially celebrated on November 30.
96-year old resident William (Bill) Dick and was born in Dundee, Scotland, enjoyed celebrating the day alongside daughter Sandra Noble, fellow SwanCare residents and staff.
“Although it has been a long time since Dad left Scotland, the occasion certainly brings back very fond memories for him,” Sandra said “He’s proud to wear a kilt once again and relive some great times. “Especially because my parents were married in St Andrew’s Church, Dundee, Scotland.”
SwanCare said the day is part of a comprehensive activities program for residents."We try to integrate our resident’s background and cultures as part of our ongoing activities program here at SwanCare,” Activities Coordinator Tereasa Strelley said. “It’s a great way to bring a sense of celebration and excitement into the lives of our residents and it’s also a great way to trigger memories and start conversations.
“We’ve celebrated important cultural celebrations from Australia Day and ANZAC Day, to Diwali, Chinese New Year and Bastille Day– the list goes on – so it goes without saying the St Andrew’s has a turn too!”
