Congratulations to Jovy Tesani for taking out the top
Feathers Award for January!

Jovy Tesani

Jovy has been recognised for her unmatched leadership skills; she consistently challenges and develops her staff on a professional and personal level. As the person who nominated Jovy wrote, “Jovy lets her staff grow. She has taught me how to become a nurse with emotional intelligence. She pushes me to my limits in a positive way. I have gained knowledge and valuable experiences working with her. I’ve seen her dedication in staying late and even coming back to work to help the nurses on the floor. Even during the night or on weekends, she always answers our calls for assistance. Jovy puts our residents first.”

SwanCare’s Feathers nominations are an insight into the truly kind and generous spirit of SwanCare staff. Each nomination shines brightly with the vibrant and creative personalities behind every act of kindness at SwanCare. From bringing corridors to life with singing, to translating Chinese for residents or shopping for homewares for SwanCare in their spare time, there is truly something special about the people here at SwanCare.

Category Winners

Compassion: Danny Nuesa, Registered Nurse, SwanCare Kingia

This month we recognise and thank Danny Nuesa for his compassion – which overrides his body-clock! Danny was called at 11:30pm when a resident required assistance, but could not reach the usual staff member because the phones were down unexpectedly. “Although Danny was not at work anymore, he responded to the call and found someone to help the resident and cater to their needs that night. Even if it was not your responsibility, you still made an effort so that someone would attend to the resident,” the nomination read. Thank you so much, Danny.

Customer Service: Francis Ericson, IT Support Officer, SwanCare Administration

Francis Ericson has taken out the nomination for customer service after generously coming into work early to help a colleague prepare for the working day. Francis decided to come to work an hour and a half early to help a staff member set up their computer and ensure the transition was as seamless as possible. “By the time I commenced work, the computer was up and running! Thanks, Frank!” Every time we go above and beyond for each other at SwanCare, our efforts are directly passed on to our residents.

Safety Awareness: Paul Rea, Assets Officer, SwanCare Administration

Safety is everyone’s responsibility at SwanCare and it’s humbling to see every staff member embody this philosophy. This month, we recognise Paul Rea for taking initiative in responding to an accident. The staff member who nominated Paul wrote, “When Paul was doing mail delivery, a resident came out of his unit. The resident, who is legally blind, had dropped a bottle of liquid. Without hesitation, Paul picked up the glass, and mopped and dried the kitchen so that the resident wouldn’t slip.”  Well done, Paul. Thank you for ensuring the safety of our residents.

Improvement, Innovation and Creativity: Sudeep Adhikari, Assistant in Nursing, SwanCare Tandara

We congratulate Sudeep Adhikari for his innovative idea to introduce an orientation board into the rooms of bed-bound SwanCare Tandara residents. “This board will assist each resident in remaining orientated to date, day and time instead of having to ask staff each day, thus maintaining their dignity and independence,” wrote the staff member nominating Sudeep. Very impressed by Sudeep’s idea, our Lifestyle Coordinator is organising the boards to be installed. The staff member nominating Sudeep continued, “Thank you Sudeep for thinking of residents who can't always tell us how they are feeling. Great work!”

Teamwork: Michael Bermejo, Assistant in Nursing, SwanCare Kingia

At SwanCare, we pride ourselves as being a team that goes above and beyond. This is clearly illustrated when staff members actively attend to residents who are not specifically under their care. This month, Michael Bremejo has taken out the nomination for Teamwork for his boundless sense of duty to fellow staff and residents. As the person who nominated Michael wrote, “Michael is so responsible that he proactively attends to residents even not on his section on a particular day. He always offers help with a smile rather than pushing responsibility on.”

Compassion, Team Nomination: Richard Holloway and Yolande Smith: The Night Shift Team, SwanCare Kingia, SwanCare Tandara

Time and time again, staff go out of their way, demonstrating their genuine and heartfelt care. Richard Holloway and Yolande Smith are being recognised as a team for attending to a resident who was not directly under their care. As the colleague nominating them wrote, “Richard and Yolande helped a resident who required assistance in the Village, even though it was not their responsibility. They both felt it was their duty of care that this resident would feel safe and comfortable during the night. It is such a privilege to work with two great compassionate staff.” Thank you both for your kindness towards our distressed resident.

Congratulations to all nominees.

Although there can only be one winner for each category, we had many notable nominees in February.
