SwanCare’s Feathers Wrap Up: September 2019

Feathers Logo

Welcome to your Feathers September Newsletter. Time for a cuppa and some jazz as we hope to bring a smile to your face by sharing the many wonderful acts of kindness that take place at SwanCare every day. This month, we had an incredible 163 staff nominated by 103 team members, residents or family members. Thank you to all our nominees as well as those who nominated them – Feathers wouldn’t be possible without you.

The September Feathers Winner is Rossannah Besterwitch, HKA, for Safety Awareness and Learning and Development!

As the person who nominated Rossannah wrote, “Rossannah came to me to discuss an issue that she thought was a occupational safety and health concern. After our discussion, she completed a hazard report for us to investigate the issue. We found that it was not just Rossannah who was affected, but the whole team of the cleaning department.” Thank you Rossannah for raising this and preventing future injuries.

    Feathers Winner September 2019

In whatever form they appear to us… whether it be on the back of a napkin, receipt, coaster… SwanCare Feathers nominations help us to learn more about the kind of people we work with every single day. From dawn to dusk and right around the clock, Feathers nominations tell us that our people not only aim to do what is right, but strive for excellence. For every Feathers nomination, there are so many other generous deeds that slip by observation, but are just as valuable. Thank you to all our teams for your efforts this month.

Category Winners

Aby Casteneda

Customer Service: Aby Casteneda, Assistant in Nursing, Kingia and Tandara

One resident nominated Aby for her incredibly kind demeanor. “Aby is a very lovely lady. She brings joy through the front door and has courage that only few possess. She is very kind, caring and never rushes. Her gentle touch and caring nature brings a lot of comfort to our day. When we see her lovely smile, we know it's going to be a good day. Please don't let anyone poach her!”

Francis Ericson

Compassion: Francis Ericson, IT Support

This month, we express our gratitude to Francis for his kindness in consoling one of our residents. “Francis visited a resident and was unaware she had recently lost her husband. Francis noticed a model of an MG and commented how nice it was and the resident became very teary. Francis stayed and talked with her until she settled. Thank you Francis. I’m aware it can be confronting when you say something, and it upsets the resident. I know our resident was very appreciative of Francis's compassion.” Thank you

Karen Munro

Improvements: Karen Munro, Assistant in Nursing, Waminda

“Karen had spent 10 weeks preserving a bouquet of flowers that was given by a resident's husband before he passed away. She had pressed the flowers into the frame. The resident tells everyone that visits how pleased she is to have the memory of her husband so beautifully captured. Karen is one of our new AINs, but she took her initiative in her own time to make our resident happy in a meaningful way in the short time she's been with us.” Thank you for your beautiful act, Karen.

Sharon Soon

Leadership: Sharon Soon, Registered Nurse, Kingia

“Sharon is a quiet achiever and leads her team in a calm and gentle manner. She has grown into a leader staff follow and respect. She always safeguards the safety of staff and residents under her care. Sharon also make sure the needs of our residents are prioritised. Sharon, you have grown through the years in your role as a nurse and as a leader.”

Rossannah Besterwitch

Learning and Development: Rossannah Besterwitch, Housekeeping Attendant, Kingia

As well as being our overall winner, Rossannah has also won the category of Learning and Development. “When I did my buddy shift with Rossannah, she created a list of detailed instructions on what I should be doing on the floor. As a new cleaner, I am overwhelmed with all the things I should know - but Rossannah patiently teaches me. Thank you for your help.”

Rachel Giancaspro

Recognising others: Rachel Giancaspro, Roster Coordinator, Kingia/ Tandara

This month, we celebrate Rachel for always checking in with her team mates. “Karen goes around the floors to ask if we are all okay and how we are all going - every day. This makes everyone feel good that she is there to support us. Thank you Rachel.”

Vikas Chauhan

Teamwork, Vikas Chauhan, Resident Support Officer, Admin

In September, we recognise Vikas for his dedication when it comes to helping his team mates. “ I asked Vikas to provide some information for a presentation. We agreed we would meet the following day to work on it. The next morning however, Vikas had already completed it, demonstrating fantastic teamwork. He has saved other staff members significant time by producing all of this himself.”  Thank you, Vikas for your outstanding work!

Surekha Sharma

Drishti Goojha

Rashida Carace

Team nomination:

Surekha Sharma, Drishti Goojha, Rashida Carace, Hospitality – Food Services

“Since taking a more 'behind the scenes' role when it comes to our village meal-delivery, it has become more apparent to me how these ladies go above and beyond as a team to deliver meals to residents. I could not appreciate their help more. On top of this, the girls often jump into other areas - whether that be to help in our Main Production Kitchen Plating Room, Spritz Café, or facility. They do this without a fuss and it is very much appreciated. Thank you so much for your dedication, enthusiasm, help and continued support Drishti Surekha and Rashida! I couldn't do this without you!”

Congratulations to all nominees.
